This type of diabetes accounts for about 15% of all diabetes. Adult-onset diabetes is becoming more and more common due to wrong dieting and lack of exercise, environmental factors in people genetically predisposed.
Initial symptoms of the disease are
- increased thirst, urination
- weight loss
- dizziness, spaciness
- lack of energy
- fatigue
- abdominal pain
The disease is diagnosed by taking a blood glucose test after an overnight fast and after ingesting a load of sugar. These tests measure the body’s ability to metabolize glucose. The glucose levels should be studied over a six hour period to get an accurate picture of the patient’s glucose metabolism.
The traditional management of diabetes I is injections of insulin. However, effectiveness of injections may prove to be a bad longterm solution. Patients may be required to increase the dosage until it becomes ineffective over time.
